Merkel statement on Germanwings crash

(24 Mar 2015) German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Tuesday said the crash of a German plane in southern France had left the people of her nation, and those in France and Spain, "plunged in deep sorrow". Speaking in Berlin, she said she would travel to the crash site region on Wednesday, and that Germany's foreign and transport ministers were already en route. She said her thoughts were "with those people who so suddenly lost their lives, among them many compatriots". Merkel said she had spoken to the French president and the prime minister of Spain and that the three nations would cooperate closely on establishing the cause of the disaster, that left at least 150 people dead.
