Following one of the greatest college careers in history, Pete Maravich would be selected with the 3rd overall pick in the 1970 NBA Draft and would immediately demonstrate his scoring prowess, averaging 23.2 point per game in his Rookie Season. Despite his impressive play, Maravich was not the greatest fit for the Atlanta Hawks and, following a disappointing ‘73-’74, he was traded to the New Orleans Jazz, an expansion team preparing for its inaugural season. Although his first season with the franchise would be a struggle, Maravich would thrive as the face of the Jazz. From ‘73-’79, the flamboyant guard would average 26 and 6, while taking home the scoring championship in ‘77. However, the Jazz would never see a winning record during the Pistols tenure, and he would be waived in January 1980, as severe knee problems prevented the former star from playing. He would be picked up by the Boston Celtics for the remainder of the 1980 season before announcing his retirement. On his career, Pete Maravich would maintain averages of 24.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 5.4 assists.
