An unintended side effect of the COVID-19 outbreak in China is a smaller carbon footprint. The country has cut its carbon dioxide emissions by about 100 million metric tons over the past two weeks. That's nearly the same amount Chile emits in a year. A report by non-profit group Carbon Brief said travel and transport restrictions, as well as less economic activity, have translated into a temporary dip in emissions. However, researchers said China's emissions will increase as the government looks to stimulate the economy through infrastructure projects in the aftermath of the coronavirus outbreak.
