HAMILTON, Ohio (WKRC) - Crews recovered a body from the Great Miami River Tuesday. Twenty-nine-year-old Benjamin Gipson's body was recovered near the spot he went missing while kayaking Sunday. Crews were on the river Sunday and Monday searching for Gipson. Hamilton Fire officials say three people borrowed kayaks Sunday and went into the river north of the High Main Bridge. One went to shore; Gipson capsized a short time later. Thirty-five-year-old Wilbur Strobel went to help and he too capsized. Strobel was rescued by someone on a Sea Doo. Gipson never resurfaced. This was the first time the men had been in a kayak, and neither of them wore life vests. Around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, sonar picked up an image just south of the High Main Street Bridge, and they were able to recover Gipson's body.
