CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Two men went missing and are presumed drowned and two other were rescued on two different local rivers over the weekend, the Little Miami and the Great Miami. On the Great Miami, it was part rescue and part search for a body. When authorities arrived, they found a boater in the water clinging to a kayak and another kayak floating freely next to it. The first person was saved by a nearby person on a jet ski. The other went under. The fire department said the two kayakers were not experienced. Elsewhere, the Anderson Township Fire Department was out on the Little Miami Sunday afternoon after a report of a body in the river, a report which turned out to be wrong, even though the search was valid. That's because on Friday night two teenage brothers tried to swim across the Little Miami, a few miles up river from Camp Dennison. The 18-year-old brother made it, the 17-year-old did not. Also on Sunday in the same general area, other people in inner tubes were rescued from the river bank. A witness said they apparently panicked due to a fast-flowing current. Each of those incidents, the apparent drownings and the rescues, had one thing in common - nobody was wearing a life preserver. Not only were the individuals not wearing life jackets, but the rivers were moving rapidly. In fact, canoe services on the Little Miami canceled outings on Sunday because the water was too dangerous.
