Mid of tyre burning on the road STORYLINE Dozens of Israeli soldiers raided the village of Birkin outside the northern West Bank town of Jenin on Friday in a search for Palestinian militants. Soldiers in about twenty jeeps surrounded several houses and were conducting searches for Islamic Jihad militants. Children in the village threw stones at the Israeli troops during the raid. The army has routinely carried out arrest raids against Palestinian militants in recent months. Meanwhile, in the West bank village of Beit Sira near Ramallah on Friday, dozens of Palestinians and peace activists protested against the continued building of the West Bank barrier. Police fired teargas and clashed with protesters who claim the Israelis are confiscating their land by building the barrier along its current route. Demonstrations in the West Bank against the building of the barrier are being held on a weekly basis, and often deteriorate into clashes.
