Opossum Mama and Family at WildCare

These babies' mother arrived at WildCare's Wildlife Hospital after she was likely hit by a car. Her babies were tiny newborns, about the size of jelly beans, upon intake. They were tucked safely into their mother's marsupium, or pouch, so they didn't suffer injury from the car that hit their mother. WildCare Medical Staff has concerns about the mother opossum's vision, and she arrived with a partially-healed jaw fracture, so the decision was made to let her raise her babies at WildCare! In this video, you can see the mother opossum transporting her babies once they are too big for the pouch. Two of the babies are an unusual white color-- they are not albino, as they have black-colored ears and eyes. Instead, they are a leucistic coloration. Unusual but not super rare.
