Matt Hancock announces human vacine trials to begin this week at coronavirus press conference | LBC

A vaccine for the coronavirus is to begin being trialled on humans in the UK from this week, Health Secretary Matt Hancock has announced. Mr Hancock said a team of scientists have been working on the vaccine in Oxford University, and human trials will begin on Thursday. He added that to reach this stage "in normal times" would usually take "years" and added: "I'm very proud of the work undertaken so far. "At the same time we'll invest in manufacturing capability so if either of these vaccines safely works, we can make it available for the British people as soon as humanly possible." Speaking at the daily Downing Street press conference, The Health Secretary said the UK government has pledged a combined £44.5 million to the Oxford University team and another clinical team at Imperial College London who are working on developing a vaccine. #Coronavirus #MattHancock #LBC LBC is the home of live debate around news and current affairs.
