CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Calling it political theater, FOP President Dan Hils is asking that the Cincinnati City Council close its "unending" investigation into the death of Kyle Plush. Kyle was killed in April when he became pinned in his minivan. Two calls to 911 brought police to the area but police and a Hamilton County deputy did not find him in time. He was found dead hours later. An independent review found that the police officers and deputy acted reasonably in their efforts to track down the caller. The review did recommend some changes in protocol. Two other investigations have cleared the officers of any negligence, according to Hils. In the past, Mayor John Cranley and others have criticized the officers for not getting out of their cruiser to search for Kyle. Due to communications issues, the officers didn't know they were looking for a boy or that it was a life-or-death situation. Hils said he'll ask for union members to vote on a motion to also request City Council close the investigation. He says the FOP and its legal team will resist any more attempts to interview the officers involved. "They also have been traumatized by Kyle’s tragic loss and deserve closure." Hils goes on to say the investigations are not productive. "They are not in the best interest of the community, the city departments and the public servants involved. My personal opinion is that this political theater and blame game is also not helpful to the Plush family or their grief and healing process."
