SMYC Trail | Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Nevada | Visit https://lasvegasareatrails.com/smyc-t... | This beautiful 2-mile trail is the Nortnernmost of a series of trails running along the Eastern base of the Rainbow Mountains in Red Rock Canyon. SMYC stands for “Spring Mountains Youth Camp”, which is a long-term correctional facility for young men. The men of the SMYC partnered with the U.S. Forest Service to create this very nice trail. The trail is relatively easy and gradual with only two high points to ascend. There are artistic red rock stairs to assist in the ascent. Both high points provide a grand overlook view of Red Rock Canyon. In this video we begin at the junction of the Ice Box Canyon Trail and the SMYC Trail. From there we head North toward the Willow Spring area, eventually ending up at the lower Willow Spring Trailhead parking area on the Willow Spring Loop Trail. From that junction you can see the waterfall at the summit of the Lost Creek Canyon Trail. A great short hike would begin at the lower Willow Spring parking area. From there take the SMYC Trail a little less than a mile to the spectacular SMYC Overlook Viewpoint before returning to the Willow Spring area. The series of trails along the Eastern Base of the Rainbow Mountains from North to South include The SMYC Trail, Dales Trail, The Knoll Trail and the Arnight Trail. Together these relatively easy trails provide an immersive experience of the area along the Eastern base of the Rainbow Mountains from Willow Spring to Oak Creek Canyon.
