The 26-year-old actress posted a note announcing her exit from the series, where she plays Elena Gilbert, on Instagram Monday (6 APRIL 2015.) She wrote that, "I always knew I wanted Elena's story to be a six season adventure, and within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime." The show focuses on a fictional town in Virginia called Mystic Falls that is inhabited by supernatural beings. Dobrev's departure will undoubtedly affect the show because she was one of its three leads alongside Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley. Dobrev has won People's Choice Awards and Teen Choice Awards for her work on the series. "The Vampire Diaries" has already been renewed for a seventh season. It airs Thursday's at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
