Lead actress Nina Dobrev shared the news on Instagram, stating that her beautiful relaxing weekend away with The Vampire Diaries cast and crew was not just a holiday - it was a goodbye party. Prepare for the YouTube tributes to flow! According to the post, she always knew she wanted Elena’s story to be a six season adventure which ended up being the journey of a lifetime. It’s true, she played a human, a vampire, a doppelganger, a crazy immortal, a doppelganger pretending to be human, a human pretending to be a doppelganger; she’s been kidnapped, killed, resurrected, tortured, cursed, body-snatched, dead, and undead … I mean, that’s a pretty intense run on-set. Alas, the story continues when the next episode of season 6 airs on April 16, as we slowly approach the season finale. A seventh season has been confirmed, and the showrunners assure us our other leads Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Kat Graham and Candice Accola will stay put.
