THAAD deployment to S.Korea under discussion: US commander / YTN

The U.S. Pacific forces commander has stated that Washington officials are discussing the possible deployment of the advanced THAAD missile system to South Korea to cope with North Korea's nuclear and missile threats. Speaking at a U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on Thursday, Adm. Samuel Locklear said that the United States is "in discussions about the potential deployment of an additional THAAD battery, beyond the one that's in Guam but on the Korean Peninsula." However, he did not elaborate on whether the discussions are internal talks within the U.S. military or proceeding with South Korea. The issue of the THAAD deployment on Korean soil has been drawing attention in and outside South Korea, with China and Russia criticizing it as threats to their security interests.
