My name is Peer Cox, I am a #fashiondesigner and I want to inspire you to think twice before you throw away your old clothes. I take mostly vintage or old clothes and make tutorial style DIY videos. I do sewing projects, try new and traditional (fabric ) techniques in my home and do all kinds of vintage clothing transformations. These transformations are called #thriftflip on social media. Let's make upcycling great again and inspire each other with our Do it Yourself projects like this designer inspired DIY ! #offwhite #subversivebasics #cutouttop #copycatfashion TIPS Today I am making this designer inspired DIY spandex top from the spring summer collection 2020 of the brand Off White c/o Virgil Abloh. Virgil Abloh is multiple times accused of stealing other designers ideas, and a simple google search will give you an impression why: the resemblances are pretty striking and even for Louis Vuitton he has been very much inspired by a collection of Walter van Beirendonck. So let's have some fun and return the favor! To start off you would have to collect the right materials. I found an iron ring in my closet, however I would recommend something that is a bit easier to shape and cut. I had to take a piece of my ring. Please be very careful with using tools like a saw! In the end, for the second cut I just used a bench vice and bend the iron the break it off which was really quick and easy. Draw the holes of the preferred size, using a round shape like a cup to decide the size. Check the placement by trying on the garment before cutting the holes! Than I used an elastic that stretched out almost 4 times in the end, because the elastic that only stretched 2 times did not give me the desired result. Better cut it a little bit too big because you can always make it shorter but not longer. I started with the hole on the side. Sew it around the hole whilst you stretch it out (holding the elastic from both sides) using a small zigzag stitch. When you are happy with how this looks, you can fold the elastic in two times, to zigzag over it again, stretching the fabric and elastic a bit and than it is finished! For the neckline you can also cut a hole in the size of the ring, sew in a piece of elastic, sew in the bias tape on the outside closely to the edge. Than fold it over to the inside, covering the elastic and sewing with a very small zigzag stitch on the other edge of the bias tape. I made a fold on one side so that it is closed off. Now you can put in your ring and close the other side off with a hand stitch. In hindsight I found you would get more pleats/wrinkles if the actual ring is smaller than the size of the hole, did not realize that when I was doing my project. My ring turned out quite a bit smaller than the original off-white shirt in the end, but I still like the result because my t-shirt got really wearable with a twist! Let me know what do you think in the comments? Would you pay 445 dollars for a shirt like this or would you rather make it yourself? #FASHIONREC If you are inspired to start a project after seeing my videos or have any upcycling project you want to share, use the hashtag #fashionrec to post it on instagram, tag me and I will share it in my stories.
