Berlin swimmers celebrate Christmas with icy dip- News 360 Tv

Dozens of people dressed in Christmas costumes challenged the cold temperatures on Saturday (December 25) in a traditional swimming session in Berlin's Orankesee lake. Men and women of all ages sang German Christmas carols together before they jumped into the lake, with water temperatures at around 3 degrees Celsius, wearing Christmas and snowmen hats, garlands, striped bathing suits - some even gloves - to celebrate Christmas day. The swimmers, many members of the "Berliners Seehunde" (Berlin seals) swimming club, were ecstatic when they discovered that the lake had thick layer of ice on the surface. The "Berlin Seehunde" has been going since 1979 and has around 70 winter swimmers with the winter season beginning in September.
