Eye on Tropics: Better chance for Invest 99 to develop

The persistent tropical wave over the Yucatan has been designated Invest 99 with no real changes to the forecast. There may be a brief window where the system is able to better organize before landfall in northern Mexico or southern Texas. Wind shear on the eastern side may actually help in allowing for more thunderstorm development once over the Bay of Campeche and SW Gulf. Wind shear over the top of the storm then looks to increase just before reaching land. Still not a threat to us and development should be fairly limited with such a short time over water. Long-range models hinting at perhaps more development elsewhere in the Atlantic basin as we continue through next week, which isn't a surprise as we near the peak of hurricane season on September 10.
