Whew! Another annual October Castlevania run down for the "count!" Some people have suggested this is the hardest official incarnation of Castlevania ever made, and I would be hard pressed to disagree... on console, at least (Haunted Castle is truly a nightmare). The Arrange version's Hard Mode is unquestionably a different beast than the toned down Easy or Normal, matching and even surpassing Original Mode's sadism in many spots. Additional enemies, obstacles, and increased damage make for a very challenging run here. The Doppelganger, as always, is among the toughest boss fights in the series, and getting into a rhythm is a must. The Clock Tower is also about as tough as any Castlevania stage has ever been, the Werewolf is beyond formidable, and Dracula himself will likely end your run if you don't get past the cheap Ninja Maids relatively unscathed. Having the right subweapon at the right time makes a big difference, and knowing the timing of the awful Medusa Heads on the Stage 6 bridge makes the difference between breathing a sigh of relief and throwing your controller in disgust. All in all, this might have been the toughest Castlevania run to date. Played on authentic Playstation hardware via Playstation 2. No pausing, turbos, tool assists, save states or any other cheats were used. Recorded via elgato and XSplit.
