This session begins with an update on the recent epidemiology of MDR-TB in Ontario followed by Dr. Sarah Brode providing a general overview of MDR-TB, including pathogenesis, epidemiology, diagnosis, and clinical management. By the end of this session, participants will be able to: • Describe recent MDR-TB epidemiologic trends in Ontario. • Define MDR-, pre-extensively drug-resistant (XDR)TB and XDR-TB, as per the Canadian Tuberculosis Standards, 8th Edition. • Discuss a key current challenge and/or opportunity for public health management of individuals with MDR-TB, in the Ontario context. • Discuss a key current challenge and/or opportunity for clinical management of individuals with MDR-TB, in the Ontario context.
