(8 Oct 2019) Tensions were high on the Turkish-Syrian border on Tuesday amid expectations of a Turkish military incursion into northeastern Syria. The border area on the Turkish side has seen a noticeable military build up in recent weeks, but there have so far been no signs of incursion activity. Earlier this week, US President Donald Trump's abruptly decided to stand aside along the border ahead of an expected Turkish incursion. Trump's announcement has infuriated the Syrian Kurds, who stand to lose the autonomy they gained during Syria's civil war.
