Hurricane Isaias: Category-1 storm makes landfall in the Carolinas overnight

Isaias was a Category-1 hurricane as it made landfall overnight along the border between North and South Carolina on the eastern seaboard of the United States. The storm had veered away from Florida, sparing that state a direct hit, but grew stronger and wetter as it churned in the Atlantic. The U.S. National Hurricane Center warned oceanside home dwellers to brace for storm surge up to 1.5 metres and up to 20 centimetres of rain in spots, as Isaias moved up the coast. The centre also warned of possible tornadoes in North Carolina on Monday night and Tuesday, and from eastern Virginia to southern New England later Tuesday. At least one person is dead and others are missing in Bertie County, North Carolina. MORE: https://globalnews.ca/news/7247501/is...
