Everyone tells you that lowering the weight slowly is better for building muscle but is that actually true? Researchers looked at nine different studies comparing slow negatives in the three to six second range to faster ones done in just one to two seconds. The review included 166 lifters performing a variety of exercises and measured their gains using ultrasound and MRI scans. The result? Well, despite all the hype around "time under tension", the slower eccentrics produced no extra growth compared to the faster ones. A slower tempo might feel harder, but feeling harder doesn't always mean building more muscle. Now, this doesn't mean you should just let the weight free fall. Controlling the negative is still important to keep your reps consistent and reduce injury risk. However, going super slow and stretching it much beyond 4 or 5 seconds? That's probably overkill. What really matters for muscle growth is training close to failure with solid form and progressing the load over time. Tempo matters, but it's a much smaller factor than most people think. And if you want a complete program that applies this along with every other key principle to maximize your gains, check out my TrainWise System and I’ll guide you step by step. #fitness #gym #workout #buildmuscle #bodybuilding
