Despite having nothing to play for, York City wanted to finish the season on a high when they took on Rotherham United in their final home game of the season. The Millers were also in dead rubber territory but, with the shackles off, both sides provided an entertaining game for the 3,183 spectators in attendance. After Rotherham’s Shaun Goater forced a great near post save from Dean Kiely, Paul Baker sidefooted York into the lead midway through the second half. And ten minutes from the end, the referee gave City a penalty deeming that John McGlashan had handled the ball, Baker scoring the spot kick. It was a nice way to end a decent season and, although the Minstermen had not made the play-offs, there had been a constantly high standard of football on show at Bootham Crescent for the fans to enjoy thoroughout the campaign. York City: Kiely, McMillan, Hall, Pepper, Atkin, Barras, McCarthy, Barnes (Peverell), Baker, Murty, Canham (Jordan). Attendance: 3,183 Footage from ITV Sport Re-edited and Remastered by Phil Howden
