LATEST ON COVID-19 IN S.KOREA, U.S. AMID BIVALENT VACCINE CAMPAIGN

개량백신 접종 계획 및 추석 방역 점검 On VIEW POINT today we address the latest on COVID-19 here and over in the U.S. as bivalent boosters look to be available to the public this autumn. Also here in South Korea authorities have announced a further ease in restrictions to commemorate this year's Chuseok celebrations. For more I have Professor Kim Moon Kyu from Yonsei University. Professor Kim welcome back. I also have Professor Peter Chin-hong at the University of California San Francisco live on the line. Professor Chin-hong it's a pleasure to see you again. 1) Professor Kim, let's begin with a few words on the government's decision to eliminate the requirement for negative COVID-19 test results upon entry into South Korea starting September 3rd. What are your thoughts on this decision? 2) Professor Chin-Hong, the U.S., for its part, rescinded this requirement back in June. Do you suppose the move is an inevitable part of resuming life amid the prolonged pandemic? 3) Professor Kim, back here on the local front, Chuseok celebrations this year come with virtually no COVID-19 restrictions as highway toll fees are being lifted during this holiday period to encourage travel while eating is permitted on trains and buses. But regardless of this reality, restrictions remain at high-risk facilities including nursing homes. That being said, how is Korea faring with its care of critical COVID-19 patients especially the elderly? 4) And Professor Chin-Hong, what can you share with us about efforts there in the U.S. to better protect and treat those at high-risk? 5) Professor Kim, bivalent vaccines will be available here in the country in the fourth quarter. Is this an appropriate time frame to protect the public from a much-anticipated resurgence this winter? 6) Professor Chin-Hong, what is the latest with regard to the potential roll out of bivalent vaccines in the U.S.? 7) Professor Kim, the fatality rate of COVID-19 remains at 0-point-1-2 percent in Korea, and I believe at least 44 children have died from COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic. 29 of them were unvaccinated. Speaking as a pediatrician, what would you like to highlight about the importance of inoculation especially for children who have pre-existing health conditions? 8) Professor Chin-Hong, the Biden administration is reportedly planning to shift COVID-19 vaccine coverage to the private market as soon as January. What are your thoughts on this plan? 9) Professor Kim, what are your thoughts on South Korea POSSIBLY directing COVID-19 vaccine coverage to individuals in the near future? 10) Professor Chin-Hong, amid the rebounds and retreats in COVID-19, some have suffered the misfortune of re-infection, while others have remained largely unscathed. That being said, is there a genetic element that's possibly keeping them better protected? 11) Professor Kim, beyond COVID-19, an outbreak of tomato flu among children in India is raising alarm bells. Do tell us a bit about this particular flu and its risks. 12) Professor Chin-Hong, staying with viral diseases. How are health authorities there responding to the spread of monkeypox? All right. #COVID19 #Vaccine #Arirang_News 📣 Arirang News(Facebook) :   / arirangtvnews   📣 Arirang News(Twitter) :   / arirangtvnews   📣 News Center(YouTube) :    / newscenter_arirangtv   2022-09-01, 14:00 (KST)
