The Martinez is a classic cocktail with a simple yet sophisticated recipe. Some cocktail historians refer to it as: "The Father of the Martini." Similarities abound in recipes and stories of origin, but it's commonly accepted that the cocktail originated in California sometime in the 1860-70s. It may have been first created in Martinez the town, or at a hotel somewhere near Martinez street along the route to a popular stroll for tourists. The creator's story much like the recipe has a couple of versions. Some say the vermouth should be sweet and others prefer a dry vermouth, with the former being the most common in recent history. The cocktail is tasty either way in my personal opinion, so try them both.
