Veteran and new members of the Coney Island Polar Bear Club dove into the freezing water off New York City on Wednesday for the club's annual New Years Day winter plunge. The chilling dip, a tradition often practiced on the east coast of the United States, attracts thousands of participants each year. Despite the freezing temperature of about zero degrees Celsius, the brave swimmers appeared to be in high spirits. Most participants stayed in the icy water for only a few seconds before rushing back ashore. euronews: the most watched news channel in Europe Subscribe! http://eurone.ws/10ZCK4a euronews is available in 14 languages: http://eurone.ws/17moBCU In English: Website: http://www.euronews.com/news Facebook: / euronews.fans Twitter: / euronews Google+: http://google.com/+euronews VKontakte: http://vk.com/en.euronews
