South Korea, Japan and US on North Korea crisis

(19 Apr 2016) Senior ministers from the US, Japan and South Korea strongly warned North Korea on Tuesday against making any further provocations that could lead to further countermeasures against it from the international community. The comments from US Deputy Secretary of State Tony Blinken, Japanese Vice-Foreign Minister Akitaka Saiki, and South Korean Vice-Foreign Minister Lim Sung-nam came at a news conference in Seoul following trilateral talks between the three men on the issue of North Korea and its nuclear and missile capabilities. Tuesday's meeting was an extension of last month's trilateral summit in DC, during which the three countries' leaders agreed to enforce their security cooperation against North Korea's continuous threats. North Korea has been taking provocative measures in response to a recent UN resolution, which was passed in order to condemn North Korea's recent nuclear test and long-range rocket launch. Recently the South Korean government stated that a sign of North Korea preparing for a fifth nuclear test has been detected.
