Mateo tries to break Elena's curse using the sunstone, but he fails. Jane thinks only way to save Elena is if they make another Sceptor of Light with the sunstone. Mateo says that's impossible, because they can't get a specific kind of tree used to make the Sceptor of Light. Using any other trees would create an evil magic staff. Mal decides to make a magic staff with the sunstone. She ends up creating an evil magic staff. Mal's new magic staff seems to work at first. Elena wakes up briefly. But Mal's magic backfires. Mal turns blue and Elena falls back into sleep. Evie stops Mal's magic and rescues Mal from her own magic. Ben thinks Mal should give up magic. But Mal doesn't want to give up magic.
