[WR] Dawn of War Complete Speedrun in 1hr 35min 47sec (Normal, Single Segment).

Whole game in a little over an hour and a half - that felt great! This represents a nearly four minute improvement over the previous record and is nearly half an hour quicker than my first record attempt two and a half years ago. Overall it is a massive 5 hours 7 minutes and 8 seconds quicker than where the first world record on speedrun.com was, which was posted three and a half years ago. Admittedly that clearly wasn't a serious run but it was still the first official record. I am glad that a game I adore has a solid speedrun time to go with it. =========================== Time stamps for each mission are: 0:00 - Planetfall 3:53 - Infiltration 14:00 - Under Siege 17:33 - Destroy the Xenos 33:28 - A New Lead 44:15 - Into the Maw 56:02 - Sacrifice 1:02:59 - The Chapel 1:08:32 - Unholy Ceremony 1:20:36 - Old Friend 1:31:39 - All Out War 1:35:40 - Time! =========================== The changes and improvements for this run were: A brand new method for Mission 2 where I ignore everything I'm supposed to do and just finish the final mission objective which is to blow stuff up. Its a little embarrassing that this honestly never occurred to me as an option A good (and lucky) mission 3. The servitor didn't get caught freeing the Dreadnought, the Dreadnought didn't get bogged down and I got more objective focused with the northern team by blowing up the first Ork Boyz Hut then moving immediately on to the last base. I've put some practice in on Xenos and nailed down a reliable method. It can probably be improved but this mission is a little more complicated so I'll still with something giving me reliable results. A cleaner Into the Maw coming from splitting up the Leman Russ tanks and poking out some extra Webway gates. Its not the absolute quickest method I know for the level but it reduces risk and help a little bit with pathfinding. Unholy Ceremony was great, the previous record was quite messy here so tightening this one up was a good feeling. Its still very risky and prone to failure, as I found in practice, but the results this time were solid. Old friend felt slow but it was quicker than the last record because I kept a closer eye on the southern base and locked down any heretics trying to get out. This mission can punish you with time loss if you try to go too quickly and miss a couple of units. Things I could have done better: Planetfall - its only a few seconds lost but its disheartening to see those red numbers right at the beginning of a run. A New Lead is frustrating because there is a bottleneck where I have to wait for 2 Dreadnoughts at the Ork base. I'm not sure how to solve that one to be reliably fast so I decided for safety to go slower, take the time time loss but deliver a completed run. Sacrifice I got into a mess with buildings and resources. It shouldn't have happened but it did and it gave me about a 20 to 30 second time loss on a level which that really shouldn't happen. The Chapel was shameful at the beginning because I forgot the Assault Marine launch and land point. I also could have managed resources a little better but rather than trying to rush too hard to make up time I decided to down gear slightly and allow the resource problem to fix itself. The resource issue probably doesn't look obvious during the run but I corrected early and ate a small time loss to avoid a bigger bottleneck. =========================== This run was tremendous, so many things went right and more importantly the things which can go wrong and break the run decided to play nice today! Much of the improvements and time save came from some adjustments I have made derusting this past week. A two minute time save on mission 2 and a more structured approach to mission 4 help a great deal. There is still time to save on the table and I think I can do better but for now this will sit quite nicely. As this run has now been verified, it stands as the official World Record on Speedrun.com.
