Ravel on Piano for Romsai the Elephant

Ravel on Piano for Romsai the Elephant

Romsai is a male Asian elephant I’m particularly attached to. He lives at Elephants World in Thailand. I’ve played piano music to Romsai from time to time over the years as he seems to like music. He is almost blind. The red rope around his neck is there only as a warning not to go near him as he can be highly violent towards humans and other elephants. His mahouts say he is getting even more dangerous in his old age. The dark tar-like patch on his head is a temporin secretion from the temporin glands running down the sides of his head. This means Romsai is in the musth cycle and becomes particularly aggressive. Romsai was very ill recently and I wasn’t sure he’d survive. But he did and I was happy to have another opportunity to spend time with him this weekend. The music is the opening of Ravel's Piano Concerto in G - 2nd mov.
