On August 12, 1985, Japan Airlines Flight 123, a Boeing 747SR, took off from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport bound for Osaka. Just 12 minutes after departure, a catastrophic structural failure caused explosive decompression, leaving the crew with almost no control. For 32 terrifying minutes, the plane struggled in the skies before crashing into Mount Takamagahara in Gunma Prefecture. Out of 524 people on board, 520 lost their lives, making it the deadliest single-aircraft accident in aviation history. Only 4 passengers survived.
