Different mudras, or hand gestures, may appear in any of the postures. Mudra are formed by joining or placing the figure and hands in various positions to give certain results. According to the ancient vedic wisdom your health is literally in our hands. This because the five fingers in our hands represent the five elements or “Panchamahabhootas” of which the entire universe is made viz. What is the purpose of a Mudra? They facilitate the flow of energy in the subtle body and enhance one's journey within. Explore mudras step by step and add something new to your practice. Shakti mudra Shakti mudra – here Shakti means the goodness of life energy / goddess durga. Re-symbolise Power and strength. This is a gesture dedicated to goddess of life energy. It is also called as Shakti chalana mudra . Actually , Shakti mudra targets to improve your mental and physical well-being. How to perform – Fold and place your thumb in palm, Bend the middle and index fingers lossely , gradually over your thumb. The thumb is now wrapped by these two fingers. Keep your ring and little fingers straight . Bring both hands in close oppositions to each other. The tip of ring and little finger of one hand touches the tips of the ring and little finger of other hand. The folded index and middle finger of one hand touch the folded index and middle finger of the other hand at the knuckle. Keeping the hands in close opposition to each other. Now the little and ring finger pointed downward. Even you can perform this mudra while your lying down. This gesture is highly effective when you practice it every night before sleeping. Precaution - Don’t perform Shakti mudra for a long period. This will make you lethargic . So do it in limited manner like 10 to 12 mins.
