Never in our three years of traveling full time in our RV have we come across a sign in a national forest warning that an attraction was closed due to vandalism. The winding mountain road that was blocked by this gate and sign was to Sun Top lookout in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie national forest. Built in 1933, Sun Top was originally constructed as a fire lookout tower due to the 360 degree view of the mountains surrounding it. Now however, it is a historical marker and a place for hikers to visit and experience the exceptional vantage point. On a clear day the Cascade and Olympic mountain ranges can be seen to the north. And Mt. Rainier, a mere 10 miles away, dominates the southwestern view. Today is our three year "nomadiversary", meaning it is three years to the day that we hit the road as full time RVers. We decided to spend this occasion in our favorite national forest, the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie national forest, hiking to a gorgeous viewpoint. However, it seems a closed road and a vandalized lookout tower threatens to derail our plans. *Affiliate Disclaimer: As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
