Heavy Rain Floods London Roads, Disrupts Public Transport

Torrential downpours caused localised flash flooding in parts of London on Monday, forcing the closure of several underground and train stations, stranding drivers and flooding homes and businesses. Parts of south and northwest London underground stations like Hampstead, Chalk Farm, Wimbledon and Sloane Square had to close due to the heavy rain. More than a month's worth of rain is reported to have fallen in 90 minutes. Cars were seen partly submerged as drivers made their way on a flooded motorway section next to Westfield White City shopping centre. Several homes, shops and restaurants in areas such as Kensington and the Portobello Road were reported to have been flooded, causing damage amounting to thousands of pounds. Brian May, the former lead guitarist for the rock band Queen posted on social media about his devastation when he came home to find his basement flooded and memorabilia and photo albums ruined. The London Fire Brigade said more than 1,000 people made calls related to floods.
