TNC burning Myrtle Head Savanna in Brunswick County, NC: May 17, 2013

This was approximately a 35 acre prescribed burn of The Nature Conservancy's Myrtle Head Savanna in Brunswick County, NC. The purpose of the burn was to reduce the number of shrubs and hardwood trees to benefit native orchids, pitcher plants, sundews and longleaf pines. This unique ecosystem requires periodic fire to maintain it in its natural state.
