EHC stands for Emergency Hormonal Contraception, and it is used to try and prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex. It is available as two types of pills, EllaOne and Levonelle, both of which can be obtained from the pharmacy. However, this isn’t a long term solution and doesn’t protect against STIs. The pharmacist can recommend the correct pill and explain how to use it, you don’t need a prescription or appointment. The pharmacist can also offer discrete and confidential advice, and refer you to a GP for long-term contraception and STI screening as well as answer any questions you have.
