Totnes Odyssey (original song) - Rae Wetherill

An original folk song I wrote around Christmas time.I wrote this song in about an hour on my girlfriends guitar. I hadn't played guitar for about 5 years but sitting with hers and writing this song kickstarted a guitar-centric phase for me which has been quite fun. The song started as a stream of consciousness as I had spent that afternoon in the Red Wizard Cafe, Totnes Highstreet (I was sort of thinking about Suzzane Vega's "Toms Diner" as well) and it evolved into a song about being stuck transitioning between two worlds: The city of Plymouth where I party and make self-destructive decisions (the past) and the markettown of Totnes which is steeped in new-age bohemia and represents a healthy-wholesome future in which I am in love and happy. And the song is told from the place in between where I step back and observe both existances and remark at how unlikley, amazing, scary, weird, overwhelming both lives are when veiwed from the outside.
