"Cathedral of the Deep (Part 3 of 3): Deacons of the Deep Boss [Journey 1: NG]"—Located in a giant room at the end of the cathedral, the battle with the Deacons of the Deep is a two-phase fight. The first phase entails attacks by multiple spawning deacons. Focus on the glowing red variants. The deacons are weak to lighting-damage. Once enough of them have been defeated, Archdeacon Royce and larger deacons in blue robes will appear as well. The deacons attack with fire and melee damage and use Force and Heal miracles. During the second phase, the deacons will attempt to summon large energy magic blasts or a large dark cloud, that when fully formed, exudes curse damage. This gamechive contains three versions of the battle. The first is a solo fight as a Knight of the Deep cosplay. The second contains a partnership with NPC Phantoms Anri of Astora* and Horace the Hushed*. The third contains a partnership with NPC Phantom Sirris of the Sunless Realms*. A player must be "embered" and the NPC's questlines* must be followed in order to be available for summons. Anri and Horace summon signs are found atop the stairs that lead down to the boss room, and Sirris' summon sign is found to the left of the fog gate. A fourth bonus is featured at the video's end, where death by curse is demonstrated. The Soul of the Deacons of the Deep and the Small Doll is received for defeating this boss. The soul can be transposed (Transposing Kiln required) with NPC Ludleth of Courland (seated on a throne in Firelink Shrine) to obtain Cleric's Candlestick (catalyst/weapon) or Deep Soul (spell). The doll is a key that is required for entry (beyond the barrier) into the Irithyll of the Boreal Valley area (later). Rest at the Deacons of the Deep Bonfire to find that the Archdeacon's body has materialized and contains the Archdeacon Set. "Soul of the Deacons of the Deep. One of the twisted souls, steeped in strength. Use to acquire many souls, or transpose to extract its true strength. After Aldrich left for the Boreal valley, Archdeacon Royce remained in the cathedral with the high priests, to keep eternal watch over their master's coffin." "Small silverwork doll depicting a young squire. In the legendary old city of Irithyll situated in the Boreal Valley, the Pontiff Sulyvahn gave this doll to valued subjects, so that they might use it to cross the barrier when they return home. Listen carefully, and you can hear it say, 'Wherever you go, the moon still sets in Irithyll. Wherever you may be, Irithyll is your home.'" Archdeacon Set (White Crown, Holy Garb, Skirt) "White crown, holy garb, and skirt worn by an Archdeacon of the Cathedral of the Deep. A sign of the Way of White's highest rank. Presented solely to delegates of the gods. Of the three Archdeacons of the Deep, one cast off his white crown and left the cathedral to stand by Aldrich. [Another] attended to Rosaria, Mother of Rebirth, whom he deemed a goddess." The "Deacons of the Deep" achievement/trophy is earned for defeating this boss. Bonfire Discovered: Deacons of the Deep Soul Transposition: Cleric's Candlestick (catalyst/weapon) "Candle stick used as both sword and catalyst. Used for worship by the Deacons of the Deep. The deacons, under the guidance of Archdeacon McDonnell, became both clergymen and sorcerers. Skill: Guiding Light. A candle provides a temporary source of light which reveals additional guidance." Deep Soul (spell) "Sorcery of Archdeacon Royce and his deacons, said to have been imparted to them by McDonnell of the Boreal Valley. Fires dark soul dregs. Souls which swell from the deep pursue their target, drawn towards life."
