Authorities confirm a St. Pete police officer was shot, another injured in a shootout near downtown Wednesday evening. One officer was shot in the mid-to-lower body and is currently in surgery for his injuries. Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri says the injury is not life-threatening and the officer is expected to survive. The other officer's injuries were the result of a twisted knee or leg and a possible concussion. They have since been released from the hospital. The accused shooter is confirmed to be dead by Gualtieri. The shooting stemmed from a situation outside the Food Max on 18th Avenue South, according to law enforcement.
