KCPQ - Fox 13 News at 5 - [Q13 Fox rebrands] Open September 24, 2021

It's the end of an era at the Seattle Fox station, KCPQ. The station has dropped it's "Q13" brand today after being in use for 41 years, which pre-dates its Fox affiliation. KCPQ was finally purchased by Fox Television Stations in 2020 after several failed attempts to purchase the station. With the rebranding, the station has reintroduced the Fox name into its newscasts, which were previously known as "Q13 News". In my opinion, Seattle isn't a market where full on network branding works. The rest of the major stations have long used their call signs as their primary branding, and as previously mentioned, KCPQ has used "Q13" for a very long time. Even the CBS O&O CW station KSTW still prominently features their call signs as part of their brand. I don't think the changes would go over well with viewers, and with Seattle being a strong Democratic stronghold, the "Fox News" branding isn't going to be well received. Some people on social media have mentioned dropping the "Q" to dissociate the station with the QAnon movement, but the brand is well established and isn't likely going to confuse any local viewers. This situation is basically KTVU 2.0. I'm hoping they can bring the Q13 brand back, and reestablish the pre-2016 status quo of being known as "Q13 Fox News". Copyright Fox Television Stations.
