Our scripture reading comes from Luke 14:25-33. A crowd is following Jesus and he tells them if they want to follow him they must hate their mother and father, wife and children, and brothers and sisters. He also tells them to follow him they must give up all their possessions. Does Jesus mean this literally? If so, what does that mean for those of us who have families and responsibilities? Can we follow Jesus? And if he doesn’t mean it literally, what is he trying to say? We’ll explore Jesus’ teachings on "the cost of discipleship" and see what this teaching might mean for us today.
