What Is The National Digital Health Mission PM Modi Announced In His Independence Day Speech | NDHM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (15 August) announced the launch of the National Digital Health Mission (NDHM) during his address to the nation on the occasion of the 74th Independence Day. "Another big campaign is going to start in the country from today. This is the National Digital Health Mission which will bring a new revolution in India's health sector," said PM Modi from the ramparts of Red Fort in Delhi. PM Modi said that under this mission, every citizen will receive a Health ID from the government. He added, "Your every test, every disease, which doctor gave you which medicine, when, what were your reports, all these information will be carried in this one health ID". For a health system to be successful, it must ensure that the health needs of a sizeable population are met without people experiencing financial hardships. Healthcare doesn’t need to be free, but accessible, affordable and good quality. The policy bias of the Socialist Raj propels government health schemes towards freebies from a maai baap government and selective targeting of the poor. This leads to failures because others who are outside the ambit have no stake in the success of the scheme. Selective targeting increases red tape, is prone to corruption, and wrongful inclusion and exclusion.
