Engine Power Reduced Warning On A Chevy Malibu (Causes And Solutions). In this video tutorial I will show you how to fix engine reduced power warning on Chevy Malibu. Here is what causes it and how to solve the issue; A Defective Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor. The engine power reduced warning is a common problem in Chevy Malibus. It prompted a class action lawsuit against General Motors and one of the causes based on plaintiffs was a defective or faulty accelerator pedal position sensor. As a consequence, General Motors provides extended warranties on defective accelerator pedal position sensors. You should diagnose the cause of the engine power reduced warning on your Chevy Malibu. If you find that the cause is a defective accelerator pedal position sensor, check whether you have an extended warranty on the issue and take your car to your local dealership for replacement. Whether or not you have a warranty, you need to replace the faulty accelerator pedal position sensor to address the engine power reduced warning. Separation of the Charge Air Cooler (CAC) Outlet Tube from the Throttle Body. A separation of the charge air cooler outlet tube from the throttle body can cause the reduced engine power warning and one or several diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) in some 2018 to 2022 Chevy Malibus. If your Chevy Malibu shows reduced engine power and one or more DTCs, you should take it to your local GM dealership to be assessed by a GM technician. You can also inspect the CAC outlet tube to see if it’s connected to the throttle body. Check the CAC, throttle body, and retainer clip for damage if the CAC outlet tube is disconnected from the throttle body and replace them accordingly. A Clogged Catalytic Converter. A clogged catalytic converter can cause the engine power reduced warning on your car. If clogged, the catalytic converter does not convert exhaust, powering down the engine and making it overheat if not quickly fixed. You should inspect your catalytic converter for any blockages and replace it if clogged. Loose Cables Loose or damaged cables can cause the reduced engine power warning as they may cut off or supply insufficient electric power. Check for any loose cables and connections, tighten them, or replace them.
