Ryan: Hey everybody. Ryan here at etrailer.com. Today on our 2017 Ford E series cutaway, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Sumo Springs Maximum Custom Rear Helper Springs for our rear axle. Many times more often than not driving a motor home can be a little nerve wracking. Since they are top-heavy, they tend to blow around on the road and sway a lot and what the Sumo Springs are going to do, they're going to help eliminate that body roll and that sway while you're going down the road. They're going to improve our ride quality by overall helping support our suspension. Now before we put our springs on, let's go ahead and take our motor home out and see how it handles. As we go over our bumps, can really feel the motor home just getting thrown around, everything's jarring, and I just don't have as much control of the steering wheel as I would like. As we go through the slalom course, you can feel that our steering wheel just doesn't want to come back to center. You got to try to fight it and our motor home is leaning really hard whenever we go side to side. Now as we go over our bumps, you can notice an improvement right away. It feels like our suspension isn't taking a beating and we're not getting thrown around as much. As we go through our slalom, this is where I personally can notice the biggest improvement. Our steering is much more responsive. We're not nearly getting tossed around from side to side as much and it almost reminds me like you're driving a pickup truck. So if these are going to help this much during an evasive maneuver like this, imagine what they're going to do as you're going down the road on just a windy day.To begin our installation, we're first going to torque down all of our hardware that's holding our brackets to our spring assembly. We're going to have two 9/16 bolts up top and you can find that torque spec in your instructions. And if you flip it over here on the bottom side, you're going to have 1 7/32 Allen bit.Now we can enlarge some holes on our frame rail and we're going to be working right here in this area in front of our rear tires. Now what I went ahead and did was jacked up our motor home a few inches to increase the gap in our wheel well to make it easier to work. Now I went ahead and marked the three holes in the frame rail that we're going to need to enlarge. Now before you do any drilling, it's very important that you go underneath and check behind the frame rail to make sure there isn't any wiring, fuel lines, brake lines, anything like that that can get damaged. Now we can set our spring assembly in place. Now the way this is going to work is the bottom side right here. This is actually going to sit against our leaf spring, and so if my hand was a leaf spring, it would rest in here just like this. On our upper bracket. these holes, three of them are going to line up with the ones that we just drilled in our frame. Now once I set our assembly down on the leaf spring, through the square holes, I'm going to take our long carriage bolts and drop them through. Now make sure that the square part of our carriage bolt goes into the square opening in our bracket. That way the head of the bolt will set flush like that. Kind of take it and push it through our wheel opening. With it resting in place, like I said, we'll now take our carriage bolts and drop them down through our square openings. And this is what our carriage bolts look like once we have them dropped down through, and this is how our spring assembly is going to sit on our leaf springs. You can see the tabs on each side of the leaf spring and it should sit nice and flat. Now once we have it like this, we can take our C-shaped bracket and you want to make sure that the grooved side is facing up towards the leaf spring, doesn't really matter which end goes on which carriage bolt. We'll take it and slide it over the carriage bolt and then we will secure it using a flat washer and a lock nut and then we will snug them down just a little bit for now so this bracket doesn't move. You don't have to barrel down on these. Just get them a little snug.So now we can put our hardware through our bracket and into the frame rail. Now you might have to play with your jack a little bit to either raise or lower the motor home to get all your holes to line out properly. Onc
