American troops could be flown out of Afghanistan in a little more than a year after the US signed a historic peace deal with the Taliban. Officials met in Qatar to sign the agreement a week after both sides agreed to deescalate tensions and will see the US and its allies withdraw all military forces from the region over 14 months. Under the deal the Afghan government will release 5,000 Taliban prisoners as a good will gesture and in return the Taliban will release 1,000 Afghan security forces. Negotiations are also set to begin to map out the Taliban’s future role in the nation. Image: AP
