New nuclear test tunnel under construction in N.Korea: 38 North / YTN

North Korea appears to be excavating a new tunnel for possible nuclear testing at its Punggye-ri nuclear test site. A U.S. research institute monitoring North Korea, 38 North said on Wednesday that satellite imagery from October to November indicate the secretive North's excavation of the new tunnel is underway. The tunnel is in a new area of the Punggye-ri site in addition to the three others where Pyongyang either conducted nuclear tests or excavated tunnels in the past. According to 38 North's analysis, the new tunnel would add to North Korea's ability to conduct additional nuclear bomb detonations over the coming years if the North chooses to do so.
