The Forgotten Genius of Eddie Costa | Vibes History

If he hadn't died at the age of 32, he would absolutely be a household name in the jazz world today. His recording career was taking off, and he was a captivating musician, both as a pianist and vibraphonist. I can imagine that if he had lived longer, the whole timeline of "famous jazz" might have been different. Think about Victor Feldman playing with Miles Davis. That could have been Eddie Costa. Eddie was an incredible jazz musician, but his sight reading abilities were so good that people couldn't believe he was a "jazzer". He worked day and night in the studios of NYC. In 1957, Eddie won the Downbeat Readers Polls on Piano AND vibraphone, something that had never been done before. His life was tragically cut short, but his musical legacy still lives on today.
