If you told me at the start of 2025 that at the end of it I'd end up doing 3 levels I find harder than The Golden and one of them is Tartarus I'd never believe you. I don't think I need to say how important of a level Tartarus is to gd and how badly I've wanted to do it ever since I saw it, and especially after I started being able to do hard stuff. When I did The Golden, it felt so in reach yet so impossibly far at the same time, truly never being able to imagine myself actually ending up doing it, and ultimately that was always the problem. I never was good at making myself DO anything in this game. I wasted an insane amount of time playing low end extremes when I know for a fact I was good enough to do so much more, I was always just so scared of taking a long time to do stuff or not having a good experience that I completely shut down the idea of doing list demons unless it fit such an impossibly high standard, and whenever I did end up having a bad experience, whether it be because of bad luck or because I just end up not liking the level, It'd take me months to gain the courage to do something hard again. Starting in September, I really started to break out of this cycle of not being able to get myself to do anything, and for the last 4 months I have been on one of the most insane grinds I've ever undertaken in this game. I started a bet with my good friend Scotchtape, which helped motivate me an insane amount to keep pushing myself further than I ever thought I could, and this led me here today, where I've beaten 9 list demons for this bet and went from #700 on the stats viewer to #400. I've truly never been more proud of myself when it comes to this game and I really do not wish to nor do I think I'll be stopping here. It's only up, and 2026 will be my year. About Tartarus itself, its a wildly overhated level I'll just jump straight to it. I really believe that if 31 didn't exist the level would be genuinely near flawless, having incredibly satisfying to pull off gameplay as well as being mostly fair throughout 90% of it. 45 is incredibly hard but its apologetically hard and completely fair and IN YOUR CONTROL whether or not you die to it. The levels balancing is pretty straight forward where it starts off rather simple with some small chokepoints, then thrusts you into the drop ship which is very hard because of 31, dies down after you pass 33 until 45 and then completely falls off in difficulty from 47 - 90. 91 - 100 is incredibly chokeable and difficult yet flukeable (evidently lol) at the same time. I really think its an incredibly fun level that more people should be open to giving a chance and not just writing off as "an old bad impossible level." I myself did this before starting it, and maybe going into it expecting to hate it made it a lot more bareable but I will defend this level with my life. I don't have enough description space to talk about my experience but for the most part it was fine. The stress of the bet I had + having some REALLY stupid deaths 64+ made it incredibly difficult for me to stay positive which impacted my enjoyment a bit. It felt like everytime I got to 64 I got dumber and dumber with the deaths I was having. Overall it was fine though and I was stupid good at 48 - 64 which made me happy. Thank you to TMG and ESPECIALLY Scotchtape for being there during this insane grind I've been on.
