Contention over Al Jenabi case continues

The Australian Human Rights Commission has asked the government to pay Ali Al Jenabi, an asylum seeker and former people smuggler, thousands of dollars in compensation for wrongful detention. The commission claims the government has betrayed human rights conventions, but the current and previous federal governments have refused to give him refugee status.
