Here's the full demonstration of the Inclince Pause Rep Barbell Bench Press overload technique used in the FMS program to increase bench pressing strength. In this online personal training demonstration FMS trainer and founder Kaliesha and Yani Burmeister explain the importance and use of this fantastic strength training overload technique. The Incline Pause Rep Barbell Bench Press is a great exercise for advanced level people wanting to improve maximal strength in the chest, shoulders and arms. The incline position is especially useful for hitting the clavicular fibres of the peck that originate in the collarbones (clavicle) and angle down towards the humeral attachment. These fibres are faster twitch than the sternal and abdominal fibres, meaning they fatigue quicker, are better used to explosive movements and lower rep ranges where more intensity is the goal. At some point you will hit strength development plateaus. This is where the pause rep method will come in handy. By pausing at the bottom end range of motion you remove inertia and any stretch reflex in the muscles. This makes the exercise much harder.
