UN rapporteur urges N.Korea's accountability for rights abuses / YTN

The special U.N. rapporteur on North Korea's human rights situation has urged Pyongyang to take accountability for serious human rights abuses in the secretive communist country. Marzuki Darusman, on his last trip to Seoul in the capacity of the U.N. rapporteur, made the comments during a news meeting in Seoul on Thursday. He said nothing has changed in North Korea's stance in the two years since the U.N. Commission of Inquiry issued a report accusing the North of grave crimes against humanity. Expressing regret over the human rights situation in the North, Darusman also said accountability for the crimes outlined in the report should be pursued. The U.N. rapporteur since 2010, Darusman will submit his final report to the U.N. Human Rights Council as his tenure ends in March next year. All of his numerous requests to visit North Korea have been rejected by Pyongyang.
